What Data We Collect

Fabelo collects as little as possible. Reading the Site requires no account and no sign-in, and we do not build profiles of our readers.

  • Analytics: We use Umami, an open-source, cookieless analytics tool that we run on our own server. It records page-level measurements — the page visited, the referring page, general country, device and browser category. It sets no cookies, does not follow you across other sites, and does not build a profile of you. The measurements never leave our infrastructure and are not shared with any advertising network.
  • Delivery and security: The Site is served through Cloudflare. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request headers in order to deliver pages and to protect the Site against abuse. These records are used for operations and security, not for marketing.
  • Your basket: When you put something in the basket we record what is in it on our own server, so we can see which products people want and whether baskets are being left behind. Until you reach the checkout form this record carries no name — only a random identifier kept in your browser. If you fill in the checkout form, your name and email are attached to it so we can help with an order that did not go through. Emptying the basket deletes the record.
  • Newsletter: If you submit your email address to our newsletter, we store it on our own server alongside the date, the page the form was on, and the IP address the request came from, which we keep to prevent abuse. The address is used for the sole purpose of delivering the newsletter, and a notification of your sign-up is delivered to our editorial inbox over our own mail infrastructure. It is not passed to any third-party mailing platform.
  • Your browser settings: If you switch between light and dark mode, that preference is stored in your own browser's local storage. It stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser.

What We Do Not Collect

  • We do not use Google Analytics or any advertising or cross-site tracking network.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties.
  • We do not require or offer reader accounts, and we store no passwords.
  • We do not knowingly process any sensitive personal information.

Cookies

The Site sets no cookies of its own, and our analytics are cookieless. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies when its security systems need to verify a request — for example when distinguishing a person from an automated bot. These are used for security only.

You can disable or clear cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not affect your ability to read anything on the Site.

Your Privacy Rights

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how it is used
  • Delete your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell your data
  • Non-discrimination — exercising your rights will not affect your access to the Site

Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Other State Residents

If you reside in a state with consumer privacy legislation (Virginia VCDPA, Colorado CPA, Connecticut CTDPA, or similar), you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of certain data processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Fabelo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Data Retention

Analytics measurements are aggregate and are held on our own server. Server and security logs are kept for a limited operational period and then discarded. Email addresses are retained for as long as you remain a subscriber. You may unsubscribe or request deletion at any time, and we will remove the address and the sign-up record that accompanies it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised date. Continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
